London #2

Yesterday we went to London. I did not get sick this time. Yay!! The picture bellow is 1 of the oldest castles in England!! The....Tower of London! This castle is very old. When was it built? Take a guess and post a comment about it. Give me your email and I will tell you if it's right. Hint: William the Conqueror. We saw Henry The VIII's armour and his weapons. Also we went to one of the BIGGEST churches in the world, Westminster Abbey. It was so old and amazing!! We saw the tombs of very old and famous people like Charles Dickiens, the famous poet. Some of it was made in the 10TH century!!! Very old and fragile tombs lie there. On the next blog I will just post pics of London.

Also on the Tower we saw the Queens Crown jewels. They were awesome. BYE!!!!!!

Sort of an EDUCATIONAL BLOG#1: Google Earth.

This the Google Earth map of our house. If you go to Google Earth and research 2 Cantell Close in Buckingham UK, this is it. It is 50 degrees N. Latitude and 0.59 degrees W. Longitude. If you are in Ontario and you go to 50 degrees N. do you know where you will be? You will be in... James Bay!!

Oxford

On Thursday we went to Oxford!!! The city is known for its university.

This a view from the oldest building in Oxford. The building is almost 1000 years old!!!!!

This is the spot on Magdelen Street where the 3 bishops Cranmer, Ridley, and Latimer were burned at the stake for being Protestant.

This is the Eagle and Child, a pub famous for the corner where the 2 famous writers J.R.R Tolkien and C.S. Lewis sat and discussed the books they were writing. We were lucky enough to have lunch at that pub!

The Cabinet War Rooms

This is the entrance to the Cabinet War Rooms.The CWR is a bunker under the Treasury in London. It was the place where Winston Churchill carried out his war meetings. Most of the rooms are exactly the same as they were in 1945 a day before the Germans surrendered. We saw a bomb in perfect condition and we saw where the generals met with Churchill. I have gotten 2 souvenirs. 1 in Oxford, one in London. Tell me if you want one!!!

Buckingham Palace !!!

On Last Thursday we went to Buckingham Palace. It is huge!!!!! And the Queen lives there!!! It probably could fit 6 Church of our Ladies!!!! Here are some interesting facts about it.

1. 1 of its rooms can fit 84 double decker buses!
2. It is one of the only working palaces in the world!
3. It has 78 Bathrooms, 256 Bedrooms!!
4. There are several throne rooms, and all the rooms have the Queen's sign on them.
5. The Queen's sign is EIIR (Elizabeth II Regina) Queen Of England.
6. Buckingham Palace was originally called Buckingham House when it was the London home of the Duke of Buckingham in the early 1700s. In 1762 King George III bought Buckingham House for his wife. In 1825 King George IV began expanding Buckingham House into a Palace for the King to use for official business. The work was not finished until 1913.

The picture above is the Palace Garden. It is 3 acres long!! I have got you all post cards and someone gets a fridge magnet with Buckingham Palace on it!!

London Calling!!

London is huge. It is one of the biggest cities in the world and it is a VERY nice city. Close your eyes and imagine the biggest, nicest city in the world. That's London. London is a city divided by the Thames River. The Thames is a river like the Speed River but larger. When you here the rhyme London Bridge is falling down you think of the bridge that has 2 towers. WRONG BRIDGE!!!!!!! London Bridge is a bridge that is long, and flat. Tower Bridge has the 2 towers.
